Malcolm Potts March 12th 2017 ~ Tim Costello visit next Sunday

Back in the day when I was the chaplain for the Victorian building industry I would get asked to take services for the most interesting organisations in the most unlikely places. The first time I met Tim Costello he was a pastor connected to the Collins St Baptist Church in Melbourne central.  We shared a podium in the Melbourne city square during a service memorialising the death of building workers impacted by asbestos.Tim spoke about his mother and somehow wove Jesus and death and resurrection in with the example of his mum.  That's the sort of bloke Tim is: he sees the way Jesus is at work in the world and can somehow put it in to words.I have met Tim on numerous occasions since then, most recently at Donna Shepherd’s home.    Donna chairs the World Board of World Vision International and these days Tim holds the role of World Vision Australia’s chief advocate.  I guess that means he tells the stories of how Jesus is at work in the world through World Vision and how we can join in.  Tim is coming to speak at St Philips on 19th March.  Please save the date.I have asked Tim to share from his love for Jesus, experience of what Jesus is up to in the world and the way organisations like World Vision are bringing people together to make a genuine difference, to children especially, right at the point of greatest need.It has long been evident that the role of christians in the world is to see what God is saying and doing and find out how we can join in. I often look at us St Philippians and marvel at the lives we live, the things we have done and the resources - spiritual, relational, intellectual, and material - that we hold corporately.  I wonder to myself what we might achieve if we could combine some of these gifts, hear what God is saying and join in together where he is leading us.  This is in no way to disparage the many things we are up to in Jesus' name.  It just strikes me that it would be more fun if we were on a project together.See you on the 19th to hear what God might have to say to us.BlessingsMalcolm
