Malcolm Potts May 8th 2016 ~ What is God doing?
We are on our second week of the New Testament book of the Acts Of the Apostles. I explained last week that if the future of the church was left to the ‘acts’ done by the apostles, things would not have moved far. No, Acts is not about what people got busy doing. Acts is about what God by his Holy Spirit did and privileged his people to join in.What is God doing? Where can you and I join in?How is the Holy Spirit acting in your life?Where do you sense you and he are getting together and doing things? What do his priorities seem to be for you right now? Is it a time of work or rest? Does life seem fruitful or are you being pruned? If Jesus is the vine and you are a branch, what season are you in?If you were a type of fruit, what would you be? Which stories, events or passages in the bible resonate with you right now? (For me it's Genesis and the call of Abraham.) What are you reading? What is it saying to you? These are the sort of questions disciples ask. These are the sorts of things we thought about together at the Learning Community that took place this week. These are the sort of considerations that help Christians hear each other and draw closer together, understand each other’s life and walk. These are the discussions that make us feel known, included, heard and loved. This is part of the way we hear God - in community. It has been so encouraging since last Sunday to talk to so many people with stories to tell about their relationship with the Holy Spirit. Let me encourage you to share your story with me.I would love to hear more of what God is doing in people's lives. As we ponder Jesus ascended to the Father's side, has it ever crossed your mind that he is listening to you, attending to you, delighting in you chatting to him, wondering about him, looking for him in the ebb and flow of your day? He has gone to prepare a place for you.Blessings,Malcolm
