Malcolm Potts January 17th 2016 ~ A January Musing
As we abide in January, here is a mid-month musing to keep you updated on a few things.A the time of writing, Tuesday, little Matilda Proudlove is hanging on, so we don't know whether we will be with you o Sunday or not as yet. If we are not there your prayers are appreciated as we travel to Brisbane and countenance funerals. There have been some movements in the Parish Council team that you should know about. Mike Bailey has tended his resignation from PC and his contribution, especially in practical matters, will be missed. He has wisely reflected on the challenges of over-commitment. We need great people like Mike on PC, but we need them with the time and energy to contribute without stretching their resources too far.Mike established a 'can we help' ministry several years ago in which he personally - or with a small team - does those small home repairs some seniors find dangerous or impossible to get quick assistance with. This is a brilliant ministry that Mike is continuing, so please contact him if you need assistance with light bulbs, smoke detectors, clocks that need adjusting/new batteries and the like; there are details at the back of the church.Donna Shepherd has also tended her resignation from PC before our next AMEP election. At my encouragement, Donna is clearing her decks as she prepares for her term as the Chair of the International Board of World Vision. Some pruning before a time of significant challenge and growth.Under Donna's chairship, we have progressed in all areas of governance and managements in ways that would not have happened without her. We are clearer than ever before about our community needs and goals. Donna's leadership has enabled me to see clearly what the priorities are in the midst of dozens and dozens of opportunities. Thankfully, she is willing to assist me in clear thinking moving ahead, for which I am deeply thankful. Some people may think, "What's going on? Is the PC a place to get our of?" If you are wondering that, talk to Donna and Mike. I think you will discover that is not the case at all. It is vital that PC members have time to do the practical and strategic grunt work of running a community. We need people committed to making a difference, working hard for others and being a part of an accountable team.Courtenay Holgate has accepted an invitation from the PC to fill the casual vacancy left by Mike. Courtenay has strong leadership and advocacy gifts and asks good questions. We are very much looking forward to her contribution and her perspective as a younger woman. This leaves a vacancy for the 7.30am congregation and a Warden. We appreciate your prayers as we progress filling these vital roles.Blessings upon blessings,Malcolm
