James Duff May 3rd 2015 ~ Third Person of the Trinity
Someone once said about the Trinity, "Try to work it out and you will lose your mind, ignore it and you will lose your soul."As we push on with our focus on the third person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit, it is important that we understand who He is. We will never be able to plumb the depth of how the three-in-oneness of God operates but he has revealed enough of His glory for us to know Him through the Spirit. My first encouragement for this week is to have open hearts to know the Holy Spirit more deeply through prayer and our sermon series. One of the wise elder ‘statesmen’ of St Philips reminded me after Sunday's service that we need to wait with expectant hearts on what the Holy Spirit will do. So my second encouragement is for us to heed the words of our wise elder statesmen and wait with expectant hearts on what the Holy Spirit will do. It is in knowing the Holy Spirit that we will see more clearly who He is and what He will do among us.The staff leadership team have been at our final Learning Community in Melbourne this week. We have been grappling with what we have learnt and experienced and how this will help us grow disciples from St Philips. These few days away have seen us laugh and cry together. We have encouraged and challenged each other to be stronger disciples and better leaders for the sake of God’s kingdom. As a staff team we want to see more people love and know Jesus. The first step is for all of us to fix our eyes on Jesus and open our hearts to Him. We look forward to sharing with you all what we have learnt in the weeks to come.God bless you all,James
