Malcolm Potts November 16th 2014 ~ servant leadership

An on the run musing from Melbourne.I had a lot of fun last Saturday at the Cottesloe Village Carnival. It was fantastic to be there with over a dozen of you joining in with the local community. Our task was to serve and the organisers really appreciate it.It was interesting to attend the special lunch for the dignitaries and hear how appreciated the Christmas Carols team are. The event is now a Cottesloe icon. It got a  mention from the mayor and the Premier. Carols... a short word, sounds simple but there's a lot to doing it.Last week I spoke about the mission of Jesus:  the power for mission, place of mission, panic surrounding mission and proclamation of mission.  It has been a real surprise how frequently my conversations have touched these things this week.  Being prayerfully present in every encounter, expecting God to be working in the familiar and local, getting past our fear of others - especially around our faith - and thrilling to the fact that Jesus’ supreme love in taking my place on the cross has paid my price, so nothing bars access to God - nothing. Pretty simple but hard for him to do.This week the staff has been at a Learning Community in Melbourne.  It's been great to catch up with the Duffs who have joined us. It's hard to sum up what we are learning. For me, it's probably squeezing my thinking around servant leadership that leads to releasing more effective Christians into leadership.  They don't overcomplicate it.  It is practical, simple but hard to do. As a leader, my great love and desire is to include you in Jesus’ mission more and more. Sounds simple but hard to do.Welcome to Don this morning. His life is the sharing and teaching of Jesus’ life, knowing Jesus and making him known - a calling and a passion. As simple as that but costly and challenging to do.Welcome and encourage him today. Malcolm
