Recipes for Growing in Faith: Set Your Alarm
In the midst of our busy days we sometimes forget that God is also busy - doing his work and being God! Why not set alarms/alerts on your smartphone or iPod touch (kids!) to be a reminder of what God is up to in and around you.A recipe from the Potts family: Gather with your family / friends and read / pray the Lord's Prayer together. The Lord's Prayer reminds us about six things that God is about : His character, His kingdom, His provision, His forgiveness, His guidance, His protection.Adults: Enter each of these headings and the part of the Lords Prayer it relates to into the alarm clock of your Smartphone to go off at different times of the day. So, for example, at 8am the phone beeps reminding you of the Father's character. At 10am it reminds you of the Father's Kingdom (it has come and is coming you know) and so on every two hours till 6pm.Kids: Try these headings for your iPod alarms - and use on weekends or after school when you have them around (or maybe you could write your own?).
- God is special, holy, powerful and awesome
- God is the ruler of the world now and forever
- God gives us what we need
- God forgives us and helps us forgive others
- God helps us follow him and live his way
- God keeps us safe from evil
As you get the alarm beeps throughout the day you will be reminded that God is at work... and it maybe even be just what you need to be reminded of at that moment. After trying this chat it about it with your family/friends over a meal. What was it like? How did God speak to you?
