Recipes for Growing in Faith - Bearing One Another's Burdens

This idea I got from www.vibrantfaithathome.org, so it's not a local one - but I loved it and so we tried it out :-)

  1. You need one medium size rock for each person and some permanent markers
  2. Gather with your family / friends, grab a Bible and read aloud Galatians 6:2
  3. Discuss what it means to bear one another's burdens
  4. Give everyone a rock and a marker. Have each person write on the rock something that is a worry or a burden
  5. Each person takes turns reading aloud what is written. After each person reads, the rest of the family says something like "We will carry your burden with you, to fulfil Christ's law". Ask someone to pray a short prayer for that person. After the prayer, someone takes that person's rock and puts it by the front door. (Or you could put them in a small basket which has Family written on it)
  6. Discuss: How does it feel to know your family will help you with your burdens?  How can we help each other?  How can we help others? Why is it important?
  7. Finish in prayer and read 1 Peter 5:7 as a reminder that we can give God all our worries because he loves us and cares for us
