Time to be honouring

I don't often write musings on Tuesdays but this week Cheryl and I are taking a week’s holiday from Tuesday to Tuesday before the Christmas rush. This Sunday is called Christ the King, which sounds grand and big and royal and jubilee like. The Sunday after is the first week of Advent,  the 4 weeks leading to Christmas. Our theme heading to Christmas will be "honour" -  to honour God who, in Christ, honours us with his greatest gift, Jesus. Some blokes in the church have been discussing what honouring means. From that discussion painting the church has emerged.I was chatting with a church member who is physically disabled at the present. She said that, now she knows what it's like, she'd consider making a register of widows who might need some practical assistance. That's what honouring looks like!As Advent begins and you think about decorations, you are invited to bring "honouring things" and decorate the church.  You can place them near the Christmas tree (coming soon) or the manger.  For reflections and prayers there will be cards to leave in the manger over Advent. It will also be a time of honouring who God has made us, honouring who Jesus inspires us to be, honouring the things he calls us to and honouring people's service into the world, to Perth and beyond and into our local community. We will finish with honouring God's inspiring presence in all the day-today acts of loving service people do for the gathered community each week to make St Philips a light on a hill.Is there someone you would like to honour, acknowledge, give it up for? Why not do it?Love and blessings - and safety - especially on all the painters. Mal
