This is what last year's looked like:
Presenting God’s messages through drama has long been a tradition at St Philips Cottesloe. In the mid 1990s, St Philips began presenting the Christmas story in musical and drama public events. Christmas Story and Christmas Jazz were performed as musicals at the Civic Centre in 1994 and 1995, largely because these events would not adequately fit in the Church. In 1996, the drama “Kobe the Christmas Tree” was performed in the Grove Plaza and at the Hillarys Boat Harbour. In 1998, The Town of Cottesloe asked St Philips to partner with them in organising an annual Carols by Candlelight event at the Civic Centre. That first 1998 Carols by Candlelight event included the Kobe the Christmas Tree drama segment.Over the ensuing years, crowds of between 1000 and 1900 adults and children, depending largely on the weather, have enjoyed the Carols by Candlelight event. 2009 was our largest crowd yet and was a fantastic night.People clearly enjoy a relaxed picnic on the Civic Centre upper lawn followed by carol singing with drama and dance performance segments. The event has become an annual Christmas tradition for many families. It provides a break from the bustle of the Christmas build-up and an opportunity to reflect on the deeper significance of the Christmas season. In 2011, St Philips celebrates 100 years of service in the Cottesloe District.
