Open Space works for me

The Church camp last weekend was great! Before leaving for the camp I was struck by what Paul said in Romans 15: 5,6 “May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Significantly, Malcolm spoke of the church in Corinth – and drew challenging parallels with contemporary church life and the need for acceptance and unity in the midst of diversity. We were lead by Michael  Wood  through a process known as “Open space”. Essentially this provided a non threatening and respectful opportunity for individuals to state a topic of interest /passion that they would like to have a conversation about – and people at allocated times and places came to have the conversations that appealed to them. There were some 40 topics – and the main points and action intents will be collated and distributed soon. The topic that I sought conversation about was: “Hosting the Presence of God – and experiencing Revival.” It was encouraging that many were also interested to converse together about this – and that several other conversation groups were on a similar theme. More anon! But it occurred to me that in fact we are being invited and challenged to create an “Open Space’” for God to be with us through the Holy Spirit, and to be with Him, worship Him, listen to Him and do what He shows us – with revival coming in His way and time – but essentially being evidenced by more love for Him and more love for one another. That will draw people to Jesus! It always does. My hope is to see this being the essence of every aspects of life at St Philips – our Home groups, huddles, worship times and everything! We host His Presence and make Him welcome. One way to increase our readiness and discipleship is to add to our learning about how to live the Christian life. So we have regular learning nights at St Pips – and the next one this Tuesday will be on the topic: “ How to share my faith” – lead by Cheryl and Nicholas. Why not come along – and create an “Open Space” to host the Presence of God!
