Welcome to Christmas and the New Year at St Philips

During this time we enjoy worshipping together in an "all together" way at 9am on Sundays. You are most welcome to join us. We endeavour to give the many people who contribute so much all year a well earned break over January.St Philips is an interesting community of people; you can be lulled into believing we are a sizeable community because so many positive community based things emanate from here: ministry to the worshipping community, children, the poor and disadvantaged, people new to Australia by virtue of refugee status, the beach and pub community, newcomers to Perth, prisoners and their families, not to mention the big community events we sponsor and run around Christmas time. The fact is we are not a big community at all but almost everyone is involved in something and many are involved in many things. St Philips is a great church to be a part of. St Philips isn't a great church to be a part of if you want to be a passenger! In fact the people who inspire me most are those who struggle and suffer often with chronic illness or disability and still give of their time, talents and gift, often at great personal cost. This level of activity requires us to have an intentional determined rhythm though. Do you know how long a fruit tree lives if you engineer it to produce fruit all year round? Three years is the answer. Things that are pushed hard die fast. Life has times of growth and fruitfulness but also needs pruning and abiding, just rest. January is legislated rest at St Philips. So, if you come to church you may be asked to contribute; read or welcome people, wash a dish or pour a cuppa. Worship won't be slick - cheap and cheerful might best describe it. We will have visiting speakers and simple talks. Lots of people will be away and lots of visitors will be most welcome.Come and join us as we obey Jesus' word in this "dialed down" season - "Abide in me .... Remember without me you can do nothing" ~John 15Malcolm
