The Tuesday morning Bible study group have been looking into the Book of Daniel over the last 6 weeks.  We read  chapter 6 this week, the story of Daniel being accused of not obeying King Darius’ decree that everyone should bow down and worship the king.  As a result, Daniel was thrown into the lion’s den.  It’s a sobering story when you look closer at what’s going on: jealousy, flattery and treachery, catastrophic consequences for whole families. Daniel had to [continue reading…]

Today is a bittersweet day. The sweet part is that we will be celebrating the baptisms of Sabine (3) and Sampson (1) Leaversuch, friends of the Spaldings. It is wonderful to have these little lives being dedicated to God by their parents. Children are such a gift and our role as parents is to give them the best foundation we can that will prepare them for a life well lived. The most important foundation we can give is daily walking [continue reading…]

The ladies’ bible study on Tuesday mornings has been digging into the book of Matthew. We have been very challenged by the hard sayings of Jesus but also warmed by his invitation of great love and understanding of our human frailties. At the end of chapter 11 are these famous verses: Come to me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle [continue reading…]

On Tuesday morning at one of the many small groups that meet through the week, we’ve just finished delving into the book of James. We’ve been using a method of reading and reflecting on the bible called the Swedish method – and no, it’s not a back massage by a big guy called Sven but a simple way of drawing out of the passage what the Holy Spirit wants to reveal to us. We read the passage twice, then spend [continue reading…]

Today we have Janine Rule and Matthew Denhom, representatives of Shenton Christian Council, with us to share about the very important work of Chaplaincy in our state schools in WA.  It’s front line mission but with its wings clipped.  School chaplains are not allowed to proselytize.  However the Spirit of God can reach the hearts of people despite the restrictions.  These men and women need our prayers and support. During the week, I received some mail which outlined recent data [continue reading…]

I don’t know about you, but Judges is one of the books in the Bible that I don’t feel myself being readily drawn to, to encourage me in my walk with God. But then again, maybe I should. Judges exposes all the worst of the human condition. How easy it is to become complacent about our sin and selfishness, the culture in which we swim dulling the sharp edges of Jesus’ message. Hardness of heart replaces mercy and compassion, fear [continue reading…]
