Great comment, Sally. Costs too much I think to be a Simon G. He lives here in town and a lot of the younger crowd is really pumped about him and his sold-out-ness. Hope they can hang on to that. Marriage and family without an Acts 2:42-47 community surrounding you is pretty impossible, though. Stay on Fire. Build that community so you can make it.

Cool book. Scary too. What would it be like to be in free fall sold-out to Jesus like Simon G? the other night saw Bono from U2 in concert. I think I got a taste. Whether Bono is sold out to Jesus I am not sure but he is certainly sold out to helping rid the world of AIDS, poverty and other evils. He strolls around the stage - and a huge circular walkway that sticks out into the crowd like he knows exactly where he is going and why and that isn´t about pleasing us. He is a prophet - it struck me as he sang with SUCH passion - writhed and scowled and pointed and challenged the mob - popping veins and poking fingers and wrenching himself around....and always niggling away with "what time is it ?¨" the core question of the night. Time to stand up? To shout? To be real? To give it your all? Is it time?

Yay daddy! bring on the canoooodles! Yay for seeing this in a different perspective; I know the feeling. My way of seeing life has drastically altered, and sometimes I don't know if it's good or bad... dunno what you guys'll think when I come home; you'll probably freak out and think I've turned into some rudderless hippy =P But a change of perspective is nice; refreshing, especially when you live in Cott; it gets reeeeeally complacent there very easily if you let it. I loves you and mummy looks so cute paddling the little canoe =] Love and miss you guys.

Love always from Melb,

I've finished Peter Hitchens book. He seems to me to be nearly as annoyed at his brother as his brother (vanguard atheist Christopher) is at anyone who might have a tincture of sympathy for Christian faith - like little brother Peter.

The epilogue of the book contains a rather lovely and even hopeful truce; at least on Peters part.

What surprised me about the book and is it's major focus, was P Hitchens relentless argument that atheist societies; especially the utopian vision of Soviet Russia, has proved to be both quasi religious in it zeal and its adherents blind to the visciousness of atheist ideology in practice.

I suppose one could say Hitchens argument rests on the phrase, "by their fruit you shall know them". Communist Russias brutality and failure says it all in his mind and he just seems to want his brother to concede the point - then they can get on with getting on together.

I love the phrase "prayer pushes people and situations into the path of God's blessing". Utterly no doubt about that, but how DOES that work with a sovereign God? It is great to get to that point which says "I know that is what happens so I will pray with my whole heart" while remaining mystified as to how that works....which leads on to my appreciation of your comment on relinquishing control to Jesus. This is the BIGGEST thing I have learnt to (imperfectly) do lately and only by SHEER NECESSITY - like if I had ANY ability to handle the situation by myself I probably would have still done it solo...But once you do and you know the freedom and grace in doing that, it really does encourage you to try to do it more often. It is so good to have moved from trying to "include" God in my life (often as an afterthought) to seriously wanting and needing to get out of the driver's seat and let HIM sit there.

I'm being convicted at the moment through recent teaching, that God is looking for people He can trust. In the small matters, producing faith for the big stuff, so He can bless us and trust that we will then be a blessing to others! Press In.. Press On..
Your right though, simple principles, but why do we sometimes struggle to put them to action?
