Connect!! Four years ago, over a coffee, Cheryl asked me what my mission was. I told her I was praying but getting nothing.
It took six months for “it” to arrive in the form of a new person sitting next to me at church and there God spoke…”Welcome people”.
“Help them feel welcome and connect them to all the beauty we have to share”. I told Malcolm and he said, “Find others with the same calling”. So here we are, “Connect” and three years later, it’s interesting to be asked to muse…
I thought mission was about what we could do for others, but it’s ended up being at least, as much about how we are with each other.
It’s been a bit scratchy sometimes. I know I am quite often a pain to be involved with, even to myself. I have had big conversations with God recently about that. He has berated me and told me to “pull my head in”. But it’s in the graciousness of my fellow Connect sisters that I find myself truly blessed. While we too often strive to do all that we think we should…. God pulls us up and says NO and asks us “how are you being?”. In those moments I see mission is so much more than only serving others.
As I am writing this I am thinking, yep! – it is in the Doing AND in the Being that God really teaches me.
There’s nothing theoretical about it. It is in the “having a go” – getting some things right and truly stuffing things up – that He works His miracles in me; and I suspect in the hearts of my fellow Connect sisters.
I am very grateful for that.
I see where He’s changing me and I hope that some of my prickles are getting ground off. Its not always the most comfortable process but with my Connect friends I feel safe. I also feel we have the luxury of becoming more authentic with each other. That’s rare and precious and I love it.
